Tip-off leads to loanshark arrest

<!-- by line --> By Reico Wong

A 26-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Friday for suspected involvement in loanshark activities following a tip-off from a member of the public. Officers received a call at about 3pm on Friday about a suspicious person spotted, and detained a man fitting the given description at a HDB block of flats at Yishun Ring Road. Thorough checks were conducted both on the suspect as well as on his car which was parked nearby. Officers found loanshark-related paraphernalia such as cans of paint, paint brushes and a piece of paper containing debtors' records and seized these as case exhibits. The man was immediately placed under arrest for suspected involvement in loansharking activities. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was also a debtor himself who had assisted the loansharks to pay off his debts. The suspect will be charged in court under the Moneylenders Act 2008 on Saturday.
