Three men arrested for rioting at Geylang coffee shop

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested three men for allegedly rioting at a coffee shop in Geylang. They were arrested between May 13 and 15.

The police were informed about a fight at a Lorong 12 Geylang coffeeshop on the morning of May 10 at 6.36am.

A man was found injured and sent conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The police said the riot took place between two groups of customers at the coffee shop, over the late serving of food to the suspects' group.

The three suspects will be charged in court on Thursday for rioting.

If convicted, they could be caned and jailed for up to seven years.

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested three male suspects aged between 37 and 41 who are believed to be involved in a case of rioting reported at Lorong 12 Geylang.

On May 10 at about 6.36am, the police were informed about a fight at a coffee shop located along Lorong 12 Geylang.

Upon arrival of police officers, a male victim was found injured and he was conveyed conscious to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Through extensive ground enquiries and immediate followup investigations, police officers established the identities of the assailants.

Between May 13 and 15, the three male suspects were arrested for the offence of rioting.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the riot took place over a frivolous incident between two groups of customers at the coffeeshop due to the late serving of food to the suspects' group.

The three suspects will be charged in court on May 16. If convicted, they face an imprisonment term of up to seven years and will be also liable for caning.

Investigation against the remaining suspects is ongoing.

The police would like to remind members of the public that it takes a serious view against lawless and violent behaviour in the public which affects the sense of safety and security in the community.

"Those who resort to violence and riotous behaviour in public shall be dealt with swiftly and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," it said.
