There seems to have been more than the usual casino activities going on at the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers swooped down on the swanky integrated resort, found some drugs and arrested three men.

The raid took place at about 4pm on Wednesday, a CNB spokesman confirmed.

Methamphetamine - also known as Ice - and drug paraphernalia were found during the raid.

When contacted yesterday, CNB told The New Paper that three Singaporean men were arrested at RWS for suspected drug abuse.

The spokesman said: "CNB officers recovered about 1.5g of Ice and drug utensils in two of the men's belongings."

RWS declined to elaborate on the incident.

When contacted, its assistant director of communications, Mr Robin Goh, said: "We are currently assisting the authorities with their investigations."

The CNB spokesman said one man had been released unconditionally.

The other two are being investigated for drug consumption offences.

Those found guilty of consuming Ice can be jailed up to 10 years and fined up to $20,000.

TNP has reported about the drug menace in Singapore, and specifically on the synthetic drug methamphetamine, for the past two days.

According to a CNB report on its website, it is the drug of choice among first-timers here.

More than 1,000 new abusers were arrested by CNB last year, and about 60 per cent of them were arrested for the abuse of Ice.

CNB also seized a total of 14kg of the drug last year, which is the highest ever recorded in its history.

And the numbers keep rising.

There were about 700 Ice abusers in 2010.

This increased by 60 per cent last year, with 1,124 abusers arrested for abusing the drug.

Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant which affects the central nervous system.

The effects of the illegal drug include increased wakefulness, loss of appetite, and hyperthermia (high body temperature).

An overdose can be fatal.
