Chinese smart phone vendors have been enjoying fast growth at home and abroad in the past two years, with good quality and also good prices. And now a new Chinese brand is emerging, with ambitions to challenge the upcoming iphone6. The brand's weapon is the new generation of 3D display technology, called holographics.

The world’s first holographic smart phone was released on Thursday in Beijing, by a Chinese company Takee Technology.

The Takee One handset can use its front camera to catch the user’s eye movement, allowing the user to see 3D effect from different viewpoints. When an additional shell is attached, four extra cameras can catch the user’s finger movement, allowing controls in the air.

The world’s first holographic smart phone was released on Thursday in Beijing by Takee Technology.

Estar, the parent company of Takee Technology, has 10 years of research experience in screen display, and is completely new in making handsets. It’s CEO Liu Meihong, proudly presenting the holographic technology, hopes to make a disruptive breakthrough in the smart phone field.

"Innovation in the phone industry may not necessary come from phone makers. We are good at making screens, and I think our holographic technology is ready. We may be new in making phones but our products will improve. We welcome technology-lovers to try our phones," Liu Meihong said.

Global smart phone shipments in 2014 is set to reach 1.2 billion units, according to research firm IDC. China accounts for one third of the market, with Chinese brands occupying half of the top-ten list. Huawei, Lenovo, Xiaomi and ZTE offer phones with high technical specifications and competitive prices. They’re grabbing more and more market shares from high-end segment rivals like Apple and Samsung.

"Chinese mobile phone vendors have surpassed the period of being copycats. The fact that Chinese brand phones are selling very well both at home and abroad means Chinese manufacturers are strong at R&D and good at satisfying customers with solid quality and good prices. Branding will be the next target," said Sun Wenping, chair of Shenzhen Mobile Phone Association.

Mr. Liu says the prices of Takee One will be decided by all subscribers in the next two months. That’s when the handsets are available on the market. Well, it will be exactly the time for Apple to release its next generation iphone6.

Somehow or rather, Takee one will either not work as advertised or turn out to be a really shoddy product...

That's where you're wrong. Where the Chinese lag behind is not reliability, but branding/marketing and tweaking of the Android skin to make it more intuitive.

Personal family experience: 3 Huawei phones over the past 2 years, including the Ascend P2 ... no problems at all. Much more reliable than previous Samsungs (Ace, S4) and HTCs (Desire, One). One Ace lasted 11 months, another 16 months.

A lot of doubts......very surprise if they succeed as there's still lots fundamental technical barriers (eg light bending) which are still in research stage....any way, is it android based else how can they mass adoption ?

You step back and ask yourself and wonder why the Indians who are all over the IT industry for the last 20 years, found in all the top IT companies in leadership positions have not even a single minor notable IT invention to their name. You also wonder if they actually talked their way thru.

Promising as it sounds, it doesn’t get us too excited. All of this sounds very similar to the features offered by Amazon’s Fire Phone. The Takee 1 delivers 3D elements that seem visible only to the user. It’s a long shot if the images on the Takee 1 actually end up ‘popping’ out of the screen and deliver a complete holographic experience. In addition, the ‘holographic’ experience on the Takee 1 is only possible if you snap on the accessory (shown above), on it. In addition to promising a holographic experience, the Takee 1 also promised other features. These include 3D games and 3D movies all through the holographic experience highlighted above. It has other features too, such as air-touch and air-unlock. There’s a complete gallery of Takee 1 pictures, courtesy of sina.com for you to enjoy below.

Many Tech site has not touch the real phone yet and just comment from the advertising video.

if it is using eye tracking tech, then it is not really holographic..

will it be another chink exaggeration again and then all fake?????

But then the company says that in-air controls will allow you to interact with holographic images produced above the phone's 5.5-inch display. Now we're definitely straying into Iron-Man territory. I’m talking holographic trash bins and screen-to-screen drag.

What's more, the twin rear-facing cameras will supposedly be able to scan real-world images for use with 3D printing. Other specifications include an octa-core processor, 2,500mAh battery and 32GB of on-board storage.

Take a look at the video below to see the phone in action for yourself. We're taking the claims with a fairly hefty pinch of salt - but if Takee can pull it off then we can all look forward to some very interesting communication gadgets in the years to come.

Now all we need is someone to make an Iron-Man suit and we’re good to go.
