Mr Kenneth Jeyaretnam knows that he cannot win anything, and that his foray into politics has been a complete and unmitigated disaster. That said, by contesting in AMK at the next GE -- which will likely be held in 2015 -- he has the opportunity to leave the political scene with some grace.
If the objective is to find a dignified way out of a total political misadventure, then by personally taking on a team led by the PM is the best way to do so. It can be his swansong contest.

That is why I have always said that with this kind of infighting amongst the opposition parties (with the exception of probably the WP), how can you not expect the PAP to continue to be the ruling party in more years to come due to vote dilution? More good years ahead (for the PAP) indeed.
KJ's problem is recruiting and retaining talented potential candidates. He actually offered the RP CEC chairmanship to Tan Cheng Bock a few weeks ago during a private meeting, but TCB turned him down. He'd bet on TCB drawing in more members as well as middle ground voters, but he didn't know that TCB has always been a PAP man through and through and will never stand on an oppo ticket.
I am not confident he is that self-aware.
The bigger problem is retaining. He did recruit a group of professionals (who left for NSP) and offered to join SDA, Chiam and recruit TCB. His openness allowed AMK to be contested by party-hoppers. His doors are opened to everyone, even for lending purposes.
The problem is that his recruitment comes with one condition which is, after you are recruited, he is still the central authority figure and taking note of this rule is not enough but you must memorize and recite in your bedtime. That is where the retaining part becomes a problem. Basically a quarrelsome person.
KJ has the brains and has a successful career without being handed to him on a silver platter. Unlike Pinky where the career is all planned and executed via his dad. However KJ does not have his old man's charisma and EQ to run a political party and to connect with the people,,,same problem as Pinky. However Pinky got mountain behind him that is why Pinky is PM...it just shows Familee connections is everything in this world...

Even opposition like WP steer clear of KJ. It logical choice for TCB to do the same as he doesn't gain anything from such proposition. Reason is simple, if he set his target on the next Presidential election, it better for him to be seen as independent ad steer clear of partisan politics. Moreover allying KJ would alienate his supporters mostly from the middleground.
On another note if TCB really wants to stand against PAP in WC GRC, he can jolly well lead a team of independents. I am sure it enough to cause grassroots defection within WC GRC. Why does he needs RP?
Agree, though the issue is moot as TCB will never stand against the PAP in a GE, as an independent or otherwise. KJ should have been astute enough to have known that.
Rather, TCB has already set his sights on the next PE – his last go. The elected presidential office is non-political, and in some ways confers more prestige and status than parliament without requiring him to burn his bridges with the PAP.
KJ is not going to stand in AMK personally lah. Probably some of his other members like last election.
By right, that should be the case. However RP breached the first-in-first-priority when it contested Punggol East, so it does not have much ground to use this basis.
