JUST last year, the PAP govt declared victory over the rats of Bukit Batok with the Braddell Brothel Broadsheet (BBB) statement: "After more than 300 hours of monitoring for rat movement, 20 infrared cameras deployed to track them at night and the clearing of vegetation, the Bukit Batok rat problem seems to have been solved - at least for now. Over 230 rats were killed in a hilly area near the Bukit Batok MRT station in Bukit Batok Central, and residents say the days of rat horror are over."

But today ............... exactly one year and one MP resignation later ........

SINGAPORE - About 20 rat burrows have been spotted along a footpath near a temple at Bukit Batok Street 23, but they have been sealed and treated, the authorities said on Thursday (March 31).

Rodent activity was also found on the vacant state land behind the temple. The Housing Board (HDB) and the National Environment Agency (NEA), in response to queries from The Straits Times, said they will work together to intensify rat control work.

The rats have been spotted eating food offerings at the See Thian Foh temple, Shin Min Daily News reported on Wednesday (March 30).

A temple volunteer, identified only as Madam Shen, told the Chinese daily that the rodents have been a problem for close to five months, usually appearing at night.

The 73-year-old retiree claimed she recently found 28 dead rats at the back door of the temple, apparently the result of poisoning.

She showed Shin Min two rats - one of them 10cm long - caught using traps set up by temple staff.

In response to queries from The Straits Times, NEA said on Thursday (March 31) that it had detected the burrows on March 24. A pest control operator was asked to treat and seal them.

The agency said its latest inspection on Thursday showed that "there is no more rat activity or active burrows along that footpath".

Meanwhile, rat activity was also detected at the vacant state land behind the temple on Wednesday (March 30).

Mr Chen Mu Xing, 62, a packaging worker who works close to the area, said the rats are a common sight each night on a grassy hill behind a bus stop near the temple.

Another temple volunteer, identified as Mr Liu, told Shin Min that the rats were eating leftover food that workers in the area were feeding to stray dogs.

NEA will work with HDB, which manages the land, to intensify the rat control works.

It will also work with HDB and the temple management to ensure good housekeeping, refuse management, and adequate pest control checks and treatment to prevent further infestation.

In December 2014, a rat infestation near Bukit Batok MRT station was reported in the media. More than 300 rats were killed by pest controllers over two weeks, earlier reports said.

It boggles the mind that they can't even fix a rat infestation problem. They can hold massive multi-formation exercises at Shoalwater Bay, thousands of miles away and at great logistical effort but comes to fucking rats, they seem lost. It goes to show that the quality of people we have in grassroots and town councils.

Of course when the mp is not doing his job but instead spent most of his time fucking around with rc, ccc or whatever c members, the rats come out. The rot started from the top, as is well known....:(

Rat Infestation Hits Bukit Batok Again!

Trying to put a spin on the ignominy of David Ong's resignation over an extramarital affairs with a married grassroots woman, Tharman claimed that the former MP "worked extremely hard" and spent "4-5 times a week in Bukit Batok".

Strange then that he allowed the rats to breed under his noses over and over again.

Was David Ong busy eating Wendy's Burger?

Bro, its a bloody disgrace. The last time it took an Ang Mo and his viral video to tell the guys at the top that it was really bad. They even mobilised SCDF, Police etc Only ones missing were Police SOC and Commandoes. I also recall the litany of excuses from - " we have been monitoring the situation for some time, the cleaners schedules, fishball sticks, people feeding dogs, the moon did not appear " BS.

If it was old man, he would have sacked the guy in charge for "monitoring the situation for sometime".

Chee should call for a press conference and lambast these guys. This is clearly a situation where his confrontational style is necessary and will be appreciated. He should ask them what lessons have they learnt from the previous disaster if any. He should also ask who in Bukit Batok has accountability for this.

Wow, the rats are huge! No wonder the dogs are scared of them.

PAP's TC did a terrible job solving the Bukit Batok rat problem, yet BB residents still voted for PAP. The BB Sinkies are beyond hope, they deserved what they voted for, hope they enjoy living with huge rats.

If you ask me they should not only exterminate the rats but also the RC, CCC and to your point any other C members as well. In the last 30 years I have no idea what these grassroots porlumpars did. What exactly were doing all this while.

Of course the porlumpars have their own raison d'être....for one thing it is good to hang around the rc, ccc, whatever c as there are many many lucrative contracts just waiting for them to be picked up and profiteer. If you walk around, other than opposition wards, how many other constituencies could you see rubbish all around, by the road side? The most ridiculous and fucktard is this new method of clearing fallen and dried leaves ....use a blower to blow them to the side of the road, into the bushes.... and let them rot. BTW, whatever excuse they come out with, this is never an environmental friendly practice but just adds to the general filth and rubbish accumulating all around our streets. Really so sad to see these...Singapore is really reverting back to the 60s and before.....

Aiyo. Confrontations arh, does it solve the rat problem? More than ever the residents need the PAP to call in the cavalry and elimate the rats with their access to vast government resources. Voters will be wise to vote for someone who can do things for them instead of just talking about it.

Muralee who has 16 years of grassroots experience, many of which in BB can tell you if you ask him nicely.

What happened to the pap boast that they cleaned up Singapore, made this a spick and span garden city, etc?

The rat infestation is not unique to BB. The BB problem however has been recurring. Surely there are regular preventative measures that can be implemented to keep it down.

Garden city indeed. Reminds me of Tracy tan's crumbling of Singapore. Where is she by the way??

The Govt failed and needs to provide answers. Chee previous style can be used appropriately used in this case. Forget about their resources More like they were sitting on it. If PAP cannot deliver, give to someone who wants to try.

Sadly I think Tracy was right, the trajectory is showing just that. And yes, we need her back.

what can pap or csj do? poison the entire constituency to rid the rats? the root cause is a combo of sinkies' insatiable lust for food, littering, public feeding of animals, and the hill of waste (no pun intended) that is discarded in the sewers, covered ducts and open dumps without proper pest control. short of poisoning the rat community and polluting ground water with poison, the most eco-friendly and effective way of getting rid of critters and pest is the use of natural, bio-degradable powder and liquids obnoxious and terrifying to rodents and pest. clue: powdered pig's blood mixed with chili powder for the rodents and orange oil or rosemary oil for pest including termites. works all the time. 100% customer sextifaction. inject copious amount of powder mix into rodent holes and after a week they will starve to death or burrow somewhere else lower at water table where they will likely drown due to ground water. the reason hills are havens for rodents is because they are above the water table and dry for safe breeding. sinkies are book smart but yard stupid.
