Ekkarat Kanokwannakorn, left, receives a box of gold necklaces from taxi driver Saksri Ketseekaeo at the Sor Wor Por 91 police radio station in Bangkok yesterday. Mr Ekkarat, a gold shop owner from Ubon Ratchathani, left the gold in the back of Mr Saksri’s taxi on Wednesday. The driver returned the gold to him yesterday

The driver, 56-year-old Saksri Ketseekaeo from Roi Et, returned the necklaces, about 450 baht weight of gold, to Ekkarat Kanokwannakorn at the Sor Wor Por 91 police radio station in Bangkok yesterday.

Mr Ekkarat, 60, had brought the necklaces from his gold shop in Ubon Ratchathani to have them repatterned in the Yaowarat area in Bangkok.

He caught Mr Saksri's taxi from Yaowarat to the Si Mum Muang market in Pathum Thani and forgot to take the gold with him when he got out.

The driver said he found a large handbag in the back seat. He was astounded when he discovered many boxes containing gold necklaces of all sizes in the bag.

Mr Saksri realised Mr Ekkarat must have left the valuables. He drove around to look for him, but to no avail.

A relative later saw a television news report about Mr Ekkarat's lost gold and made arrangements for Mr Saksri to return the jewellery.

Mr Ekkarat gave Mr Saksri two necklaces with a combined 8 baht weight and worth about 200,000 baht in total as a reward for his honesty in returning the gold.
