A SWIMMING COACH sexually exploited his six-year-old student during their lessons together and also paid a nine-year-old boy into performing sex acts on him. For those offences committed in 2008, Edwin Yap Chian Eng, 34, a father of two young boys, was jailed for 24 years jail and ordered 24 strokes of the cane. In September 2008, merely three months after he was hired to coach his student at a condominium pool, he instructed the young boy to dive into his pool and suck his private parts. When the boy failed to do it because he was out of breath from the dive, he made the boy perform a sex act on him.
In the same year, he also befriended a nine-year-old boy in his neighbourhood and made him massage his private parts several times at a staircase landings. On one occasion, he also tricked the boy into performing a sex act on on him for $5 and filmed the act using his cellphone camera. The abuse only came to light when the six-year-old boy's mother asked him about his swimming class. She later reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested at his home. In mitigation, the victim's wife also submitted a letter, saying that her husband was a dutiful father to her two sons and that the couple have problems in their sex life.
