Street Wars organiser fined

THE organiser of a Street Wars game was fined $1,000 on Tuesday for providing public entertainment without a licence. Mikhail Choo Wei Ming, 32, a director of APE Communications, an advertising and design company, admitted to the offence at Wolskel Road, off Upper Serangoon Road, on May 12. Street Wars is a water-gun assassin game first staged in New York City in 2005. It has spread to other cities in the United States, London and Paris.
In the game, ordinary people pay $50 and sign up to transform themselves into 'assassins'. They have to complete as many hit jobs as possible in three weeks. Targets are fellow assassins in the game. You can choose to go about the job alone, or form teams. A court heard that police responded to a call that morning and saw an Indian man squatting beside a car at Wolskel Road.
Holding a multi-coloured toy water-gun, the man produced a participation card of the Street Wars game and said he was there to 'ambush'' a resident. Choo said he was sorry for committing the offence. He said he did not know that a licence was required and had organised the event before. He could have been fined up to $10,000.
