SMRT & SBS to add 590 additional MRT train trips

RELIEF is in sight for commuters who have had to put up with increasingly crowded trains.

SMRT will add 420 additional MRT train trips per week from this Sunday, and SBS Transit will follow about a week later with 170 additional trips per week.

And more trains will be injected into the North-south and East-west lines - the network's most heavily used - when a project to remove a service bottleneck at the Jurong East interchange is completed in May, a year ahead of schedule.

Transport Minister Raymond Lim listed these improvements, among others, in Parliament on Tuesday, partly in response to a flurry of questions from MPs as well as Mr Lim Wee Kiak, who chairs the Parliamentary Committee on Transport.

The Minister also announced a firmer date for the opening of the remaining western section of the Circle Line: October. And he revealed, to the surprise of many, that the Woodleigh station in Potong Pasir - mothballed since the North-east Line opened in 2003 - will finally open on June 20.

'When fully open, we expect the Circle Line to help relieve crowding levels on critical stretches of existing MRT lines by about 10 to 15 per cent,' Minister Lim said.

Doing some quick calculations for NSEW line increase.

420 trips per week / 4 lines = 105 extra trips per line per week

105 trips / 7 days = 15 extra trips per day

15 trips / 15 hr(approximate operating hours for MRT) = 1 extra trip per hour

Hooray we get 1 extra train an hour starting Sunday :oIo::oIo::oIo:

Those morons are really a piece of work. To solve the problem, they need to drastically reduce the number of commuters. And to do that, they need to banish foreign trash like chao ah nehs and gong cheebye ah tiongs. :oIo:

I like your calculation. LTA,SMRT and ministers think extra 400 trip/week is big figure. Not all Sinkie are stupid. We all can do simple calculation, even primary 2 also can calculate.
Extra 1 trip/hour, ha ha ha...............

What an imbecile. Did they say they were going to spread it across 24 hours? The additional trains will operate during peak hours. They said more trainS which means that there is more than one train.

Another solution is to install one additional level of barriers at the platform. All sinkies need to flash their IC to get priority boarding, the rest of the FTs can wait at the barrier until all sinkies have boarded, than they are allowed thru. i.e. sinkies are served first and get boarding priorities.

Then 2 train lo.
How to justify how many actual trip.
Maybe talk cock only. They should post the trip on the internet like the fight number.

Look its all BS during peak hrs you can't add anymore trains unless u want to compramise safety as the trains are too close apart anything happen to 1 sure kana the 1 infront or behind so the only way is to add trains during non peak hrs which is just as good as not adding. Furthermore of course can add in more trains lah after adding more stations at the e/w line can put in more trains what so come back to lppl still 3 to 6 mins/train during peak hrs you see lah no diff as b4 TKSS.

Again like the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan, you're not doing your homework. PM Lee announced during national day that they're changing the switching software so that you can cut the waiting time by one minute.

actually i suggest during peak hours each time 2 trains come out at the same time - super long trains. 1 train dragging another train into the station.
then during off-peak hours only 1 train is enough.
SMRT buses also have super long buses during peak hours mah.

Thats all nice on paper when the day comes that trains are 2mins apart during peak hours then say lah. I too heard what he said and I can tell you yes it can happen like this: 2 trains come 2 mins apart then follow by a 5 to 8 mins apart then another 2 mins interval between 2 trains. And please don't believe what the sign board tells you at the platform some are just BSing you when the train is coming.

Yes, you're right. I actually checked that before. And yes, they're BSing. When they say 2 mins, the train already arrived. Next train 4 mins, less than 3:30 mins train arrived.

Besides increasing train frequencies; SMRT & SBS should give their respective bus systems a complete overhaul; either to complement or to compete with the mrt. Apart from providing a parallel service (meaning another alternative), these buses can ply places where the trains cannot reach.

Absence of fair competition leads to complacency. Period.
