People who sleep more than eight hours a night are more likely to die young, a bombshell study has claimed.
Those who always make time for sleeping in could end up with a “serious sleep disorder” that disrupts their breathing.

Keele University researchers analyzed the sleep quality of three million people from 1970 to 2017. The review was published in the Journal of the American Heart Association.

Scientists from Manchester, Leeds University and the University of East Anglia found those who slept for more than eight hours would increase the risk of heart disease by 44 percent.

Lead researcher Dr. Chun Shing Kwok told the Mirror: “Our study has an important public health impact in that it shows that excessive sleep is a marker of elevated cardiovascular risk.”

“If excessive sleep patterns are found, particularly prolonged durations of eight hours or more, then clinicians should consider screening for adverse cardiovascular risk factors and obstructive sleep apnea.”

“[It] is a serious sleep disorder that occurs when a person’s breathing is interrupted during sleep.”

But scientists did not find a difference between those who reported sleeping between seven and eight hours and those who got less than seven.

Some have previously suggested that the problem with long sleep is the prolonged inactivity that goes with it.

Full of confounding, i think many who sleep > 8hours previously slept 4hrs / night like $ minister Heng Swee Kiat, developed some debilitating disease like heart failure, depression (cos too sick/weak to work) and thus of course are more likely to die...

So the root of the problem is lack of sleep, high stress/ high strung lifestyle that resulted in illnesses associated with increased sleep to compensate but too late.
