WASHINGTON- Singapore is showing increased interest in buying Lockheed Martin Corp’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, a top executive with the company said late on Thursday, a week after China unveiled a second stealth fighter called the J-31.

Lockheed is building three variants of the stealthy warplane for the U.S. military and eight international partners — Britain, Australia, Canada, Norway, Denmark, Italy, Turkey and the Netherlands, which are helping fund the plane’s development.

Singapore became a security partner on the international fighter program in February 2003, along with Israel, which has already ordered an initial batch of the jets.

As security partners, Singapore and Israel both pledged to contribute about $50 million to the F-35 development effort, according to the globalsecurity.org website.

SG will rein as SE Asia air supremacy

Another $10bn white elephant. Nowadays hardly hear of USA using manned fighter jets. It's all drones doing real missions ever since Obama days.

Not a con job, but disguised protection money. You know why USA so keen to stand behind Japan and ASEAN in maritime dispute with china? We are all paying protection money to the USA gangster. China will be next to ask for protection money from ASEAN, maybe in twenty years time.

Yes it's protection money & I wonder why the PAP is paying it:confused:

Even if we decide to follow NZ & cut our defence spending, the US will still defend Spore. Not out of the goodness of their heart but because Spore is a strategic location in this region. So die, die they can never ignore Spore.

Which makes me suspect that this purchase is more economic than strategic. I wonder who will benefit$$$ from buying all this redundant hardware:confused:

spore already paying protection $$ to cccp. didnt u notice the numbers of hdb/condo projects by prc construction firms/developers, every cents paid to them will be repariated back to prc. everything they use to build the buildings, manpower to contruction materials, all from ah tiong land. only small time contractors still use banglas, these constructions firms recruit their own countrymen wholesale from prc.

That's not the protection money to CCP. The Chinese developers are merely using their overseas projects to ship money out of china.

When CCP decide to ask for real protection money, it will be much much more.

Good luck.

Following behind the steps of American poodles such as UK, OZ into funding the most expensive warplane ever developed that that is still no where to be seen. It will need massive upgrades and maintenance to upgrade the stealth technology after delivery.

Japan, OZ and Canada are trying to back away from this fighter jet.

brudder......................i say many times liao...................the Lee Family are just ''governors'' of this island - S'pore is still a Rothschild-owned Crown Colony...........

USA is also controlled by them via the Federal Reserve.................

as for Japan...................well, who defeated them in WW2 ?

US is now trying to pry away China's allies - India and Myanmar...............so no backdoor for China's oil supplies................Indian Navy will help US cut off China's oil supply...................

S'pore Navy will also try to do the same.................using piracy in the Malacca Straits as an excuse to delay the tankers.................

Yes. Canada should use any money she can find to help patch up the potholes in their city streets. So far, the only time the streets are level is during winter when the snow fills up the potholes and later melts and refreezes to ice.

Cheers!

The cost of the purchase of J35s by RSAF will be peanuts! Just get Ho Ching out of Temasick and the money for the planes would be pocket change for the government.

Politicians, military planners and strategists never learn!

No military power in the last twenty years has won a major war with superior hardware and technology!
Yes, they won many individual battles ... but they can never win a war.

Hardware can never overcome the soft power of heart-ware!

The F35 is a Joint Strike Fighter, the key word is JOINT as in it's developed by the US, UK & NATO countries & it's allies. It's like why some countries chose to use 5.56mm NATO rounds & others Russian 7.62mm rounds. It's called Standardisation Agreement(STANAG). If Singapore gets the F35 with vertical takeoff like the old Harrier jump jet, it might come in useful one day, position next to the giant bicycle wheel & offer $1000 per vertical take off, i'm sure got a lot of takers
