He allows bus attendant without insurance coverage and full licence to drive
School bus driver 'puts 12 lives at risk'
By Amanda Yong
A 29-year-old man "put the lives of 12 students at risk" last year when he asked his bus attendant to drive the bus when he suddenly felt unwell.
The man, Lim Kheng Huat, was supposed to drive 12 primary school pupils from NPS International School at Chai Chee Lane to their homes in Bukit Batok on 25 Apr last year. But 10 minutes into the journey, Lim felt unwell and stopped the bus in a nearby carpark to rest. When Lim did not feel better after 15 minutes, he told his bus attendant, Wu Shaotao, to take over. Wu, a Chinese national, has 12 years of experience as a commercial driver in China and had a Chinese driving licence, but he only had a provisional driving licence here. At around 4.10pm, they were stopped by a traffic policeman on the PIE for a random check.
On 30 Nov, Lim was fined $1,000 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for all classes of vehicles for one year. He paid the fine but filed an appeal against the disqualification on 7 Dec. For allowing Wu to drive in breach of the conditions of a provisional driving licence, Lim could have been fined $1,000 or jailed for three months. For permitting the use of a motor vehicle without the required insurance coverage, he could have been fined $1,000, jailed three months and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for one year.
