SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 53-year-old Chinese man who preyed on elderly victims.
The two victims were each robbed of their gold necklaces valued at about $1,000 each.
One of the victims is 73 years old. She was on her way home from marketing when she was robbed by a male Chinese suspect inside a lift at Blk 34 Bedok South.
His luck ran out when he robbed a 63-year-old woman earlier this month.
The woman' shouts for help attracted the attention of some members of the public who chased the suspect as he fled on a red bicycle towards Bedok Central.
They managed to detain him in front of Bedok Point but he escaped following a struggle.
He was spotted by the police seven days later and arrested after a short chase.
Two pawn tickets for the stolen items were recovered in his possession.
The suspect will be charged on Saturday.
If convicted, he faces a jail term of between two and 14 years.
He won't be caned as he is above 50 years old.
