Rapist jailed 25 years

FOR six hours, a 27-year-old man tormented and groped the mother of his former girlfriend before raping the bound and gagged 48-year-old woman on her own bed. The fast-food deliveryman had broken into the flat in the early hours of April 4 last year, using keys he had stolen from the flat during an earlier visit. On Monday, the man was jailed 25 years after he pleaded guilty to four charges - for aggravated rape, attempted aggravated rape, aggravated sexual assault and housebreaking. Three other charges were taken into consideration during sentencing. He will also be caned 24 strokes, the maximum allowed under the law. On the night of April 3, the man let himself into the flat shared by the woman and her daughter, who he knew was not home. He bound and gagged the woman with masking tape, tied her to the bedpost, and sexually violated her repeatedly before raping her once. After he left , the woman untied herself from the bedpost and phoned her sister for help. He was arrested on April 23. His DNA was found in swabs taken from the woman's body and her clothes.
