The current evidence goes against China's ambition. Being the second largest economy, Beijing actually has nothing to show for it except statistics. They would not even let their Nobel winner accept his award. It indicates the trajectory of China will be ballistic, in other words, fall back to earth.
In past histories, countries that led the world had imbibed into their psychology the cultural superiority of knowledge.
China went the other way. They embraced the culture of materialism, without understanding that if you put materialism ahead of other pursuits, you will fail.
But that will be some time away.
