Police bust shophouse used as illegal gambling den

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested four people for allegedly operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den operating out of a shophouse.
The four are aged between 22 and 64.
In a five-hour operation which started on Thursday at about 2.00pm, officers from Bedok Police Division raided a shophouse located along Geylang Road.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a male suspect, aged 64 years, had rented the shophouse for the purpose of gambling.
The remaining three suspects are believed to be patrons.
Twenty modified computers and cash amounting to over S$350 were also seized.
All four suspects will be charged in court on Monday.
If found guilty, any person convicted of an offence of managing a place to be used as a common gaming house can be fined a minimum of S$5,000 and jailed a maximum of three years.
As for the players, any person convicted of an offence of gaming in a common gaming house can be fined a maximum of S$5,000 or jailed a maximum of six months, or both.
