Just because he can't solve it with money, he gave up? Is it really they think money can solve everything? So shallow?

CB, their salary very easy to earn like that. Just use money, if cannot solve means very difficult or just give up.

Yes, it is a very complex situation. Money cannot buy anything. But it can help couples who are married and planning to have children. If it is possible for the husband to support his non-working wife and two children with a single income, that will go a long way to increase the fertility rate.

Many young married couples have chosen NOT to have any children . Some of the reasons: Cannot survive with a single income. No helpers. No one to look after the child. Infant care centres too costly. Medical cost too high. Cannot afford a house, a car and a domestic maid. Parents too old to help. Some in fact are supporting their aged parents and in laws.

So it is not easy for a married man to have any children at all if he is faced with so many problems. So how??? Don't have any children. Those who are keen to have children and who have spent thousands trying to get help have also gave up! The road to having a baby is getting so expensive now that the married couple have totally given up hope.

So I don't really blame the PM for "giving up". It is not a reflection of poor leadership or governance, but a world trend which is very difficult to reverse.

we have moved too fast and too far forward.
it is very difficult now to reverse, slow down and pace ourselves...it may or may not do singapore any good.

already the property market is rather dampened and the rental market is very slow. many condo owners are crying loud and finding it very difficult to settle their monthly mortgage loans. less immigrants. less new citizens. less foreigners. less traffic.less movement...the whole chain of events have an adverse effect on our economy....

Dont blame Ah Loonie
His time very much spend in protecting himself once smear of shit on sole of shoe LKY go eat joss sticks
He got all those PAP maggots smiling and smiling at him.
He knows many of them formed unholy alliances and all carrying sharp knives behind them.
He knows all of them are there from self interests and greed and evil and untrustworthy and scums of society.
They never dared to act when LKY is still alive.
The hundreds of billions glitter in their eyes , and they are tired of millions when they can get billions

He cannot even trust his paper generals and kangaroos. Who proven themselves to be prostitutes selling themselves to highest bidders

Those alliances might be subverting his paper generals and kangaroos.
And when LKY meet Gecko, it might even be possible there be a reunion of father mother and son soon after

Ah Loonie is very very busy sharpening his own knives

The solution is within reach, but the govt must be willing to absorb the trade off.

There is a high negative correlation between income inequality and low fertility globally. The higher the income inequality, the lower the birth rate.

Anecdotally people can see it for themselves in the USA and Europe where income inequality is much lower than singapore, Korea or Hong Kong, the birth rates are much higher.

Question is if the pap elites are willing to proactively close the income inequality gap to the extend where they are no longer drawing a income that is at most 7x that of lowest income band? Do the pap elites want to give up their sense of superiority over the masses?

Ever since he was given the job by his father, the entire nation had moved south. Now that he has admitted that he has given up, the honourable thing to do is to let someone else do the job. A right thing to do.

No. It was LKY who said it.

"LKY suggested that if he were the prime minister, he would introduce a huge baby bonus which was equal to 2 years of the average Singaporean's salary to prove that it will not affect the birthrate much.

"low birth rates have nothing to do with economic or financial factors, such as high cost of living or lack of government help for parents".

I thought it meant that pinky quit. He still pm wat..give up still got millions..i want to give up too.

Bingo! when people's needs for phyiscal stuff are met, they will want "social" wealth...being children.

Push down the living cost and stressful living, you will see birth go up naturally and gradually.

Ah Loonie should quickly declare himself Grand Field Marshallissimo and award himself Victoria Cross with oakleaves, swords and diamonds. He also must make some paper generals into generallissimos as being a Grand Field Marshallissimo with only kuching kurad generals reporting to him is too malu
Fieldmarshallissimo must have generallissimo reporting to him

After all, if such things like Senior Mentor Emeratus Ministers can be invented in stinkapore, having Grand Field Marhsallissimo no big deal

And why not paper generallisiimo ?

Immediately all Ah Loon problems will go away
Sinkies will fuck and fuck and produce kids after kids
All those in PAP plotting to take power will immediately take their sharp knives and harakiri themselves

Global warming will disappear and extinct dodos will fly in the sky and unicorns will prance on the streets and smear of shit on sole of shoe LKY will be shitting joss sticks and candle wax that some ministers will steal back home boasting of that in papers and his facebook

Low birth rate is not a problem. In fact, it is very welcome when there is overpopulation.

Once again, the pappies are using mainstream media to twist the narrative.

All bubbles have to burst one day. Maybe the time is ripe for Singapore's artificially propped up economy to crash and burn, and experience a 'system reboot'.

another unsubstantiated, unproven bs.

african countries have some of the world's worst income inequality, yet all 3 major fertility rate reports (un, cia, world bank) ranked these african countries among the top 25 in births per woman.

on the flip side, sg is ranked by the u.n. among countries such as japan, lithuania, slovakia, czech, poland, bosnia & herzegovina, ukraine.... countries known for low income inequality. even south korea is ranked by the u.n. lower than sg. the world bank ranked sg among countries such as latvia and bosnia. only the cia ranked sg lowest, below macau, taiwan and hk.

obviously, sg suffers the same fertility rate ailments similar to "pressure cooker" asian cities such as macau, hk and taiwanese cities. it has more to do with the lack of space, time, mood, atmosphere, desire, lifestyle than mere bs theories on income equality. larger asian pressure cooker countries such as japan and south korea fare much better than these 4 tiny specks.

in the u.s., most of those who have more kids are not the wealthy but the lower middle to low income among hispanics, filipinos, religious right, and white trash. the wealthier you are, the less kids you have.
