Hamza Kashgari, the Saudi writer accused of insulting the prophet, was arrested in Malaysia.

Hamza Kashgari, a Saudi Arabian columnist who made comments on Twitter deemed to be insulting the Prophet Muhammad, was arrested in Malaysia after fleeing his country, according to Reuters.

“It is confirmed that Malaysian police have detained the Saudi writer. This arrest was part of an Interpol operation which the Malaysian police were part of,” a spokesman for the police told Reuters on Friday.

Kashgari was taken into custody at Malaysia’s main international airport, a police spokesman told AFP. The state news agency Bernama said he was detained “for allegedly insulting Islam and the Prophet Muhammad.” Malaysia is a country with a Muslim majority and close ties to Saudi Arabia, though the countries have no clear extradition treaty.

I feel sad for the trouble the above writer now is in.

He had been detained by Malaysia and may be deported to Saudi Arabia.

I hope that he should be allowed to go to any country that is willing to accept him.

It would be unwise for Malaysia to have him deported to Saudi Arabia.

Religion is something close to the heart.

As an individual he has the right to believe in something OR not to believe in something.

Lets look at his plight on humanitarian grounds.

Hope Malaysia will take into consideration the possible verdict awaiting him in Saudi Arabia.

Malaysia will not want to offend Saudi Arabia.. They will send him back to Riyadh. And once he's back home, he'll be a dead meat at the hands of those Islamic Hardliners..

So yes, you are right brother. That poor young man has been packed off to the very land that has no respect for human rights.

If only the Malaysian Government had exercised the poor man's right to be sent to a country of his choice, Malaysia would be highly respected in the whole world.

Why must Malaysia be so beholden to the Saudi's? Is it because they are "Keepers of the Holy sites"?

Malaysia feels that they are more knowledgeable in Islamic matters then those from where the Prophet came from.

Such action by them clearly shows that they are still inferior to the Saudis and others from the Middle East.

The comments by the Minister is so sickening. Feel sorry for his father, a distinguished former British soldier and great leader so much respected by the people of Sri Gading and Malaysia.
