SHE had seen a similar device on the www.alibaba.com website and suspected it was a camera pen.
So when the cabby placed it on the arm rest pointing at her legs, the 21-year-old undergraduate knew Albert Lim Meng Hie was up to no good.
On Thursday, the former cabby, 54, pleaded guilty to insulting her modesty and that of two other women in April and June 2009 by filming their undergarments. He will be sentenced next Friday on Jan 14.
Two more charges of filming two other victims will be taken into consideration by the judge when passing sentence.
The court heard that the undergraduate did not confront Lim during the journey in his taxi on the morning of June 30, 2009.
Instead, she secretly took pictures of the camera pen with her camera phone.
She showed these to police officers who found the camera pen in Lim's apartment in a Pasir Ris condominium that very day.
Five upskirt video clips were found stored on it by officers of the technology crime forensic branch of the Criminal Investigation Department.
In Dec 2010, sales manager Soo Ee Hock, 35, became the first camera pen voyeur to be convicted.
The former grassroots leader was sentenced to a total of nine months in jail on 12 counts of shooting upskirt videos.
He is appealing against the jail term and is out on $20,000 bail.

A FORMER cabby who used a camera pen to take upskirt videos of his female passengers was jailed for six months on Friday.
Albert Lim Meng Hie, 54, now unemployed, had admitted to three counts of insulting the modesty of a 21-year-old student and two unknown women in his taxi in 2009. Two other similar charges were considered during his sentencing.
The court heard that the young undergraduate was taking Lim's cab on June 30, 2009 when she saw him fidgeting with some objects at the arm-rest area next to him.
Subsequently, she saw a pen placed vertically and recognised it to be a camera pen as she had seen the device on a Chinese e-commerce website www.alibaba.com She discreetly took photographs of the camera pen and later reported it to the police.
The camera pen was seized from Lim's condominium in Pasir Ris. Five upskirt video clips were found stored on it by officers from the technology crime forensic branch of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Last month, sales manager Soo Ee Hock, 35, was sentenced to nine months jail for being the first 'camera-pen voyeur'. Lim, who is married with three children, could have been jailed for up to one year or fined or with both on each charge.
