Newborn found in toilet at German airport

A newborn baby found abandoned and extremely ill in a bathroom in the Munich airport in southern Germany is doing well.
The infant was found on Thursday afternoon in a women's bathroom located in the parking lot of the Bavarian capital airport, suffering from severe hypothermia.
The woman who found her immediately alerted police and warned that the baby girl appeared dead, but when the agents arrived at the scene, they could see she was still breathing.
She was airlifted to a nearby hospital in the company of an emergency paediatrician, but security forces said then her condition was "critical" and that it was difficult to determine if she would survive.
However, on Friday, the baby was doing well and has good chances of survival, North Upper Bavaria police spokesman Hans-Peter Kammerer said.
Doctors were caring for the infant at a Munich hospital, while the search for the mother was continuing, Kammerer said.
About 40 officers had carried out a search of the airport grounds and local commuter trains.
"There are indications of suspicious movements in the area of the airport," but they are not very concrete, he said. There were also no immediate clues as to the identity of the father.
Detectives are working on the assumption that the mother gave birth at the public convenience and abandoned the baby there.
