SINGAPORE - The Singapore Police Force (SPF) launched the Community Safety & Security Programme (CSSP) - "Anti-Unlicensed Moneylending (Anti-UML) Roadshow 2013" on March 16 at Bedok Point Shopping Centre.
Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of National Development, Minister of Parliament for East Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) and Adviser for Kampung Chai Chee Division Mr Lee Yi Shyan was the Guest-of-Honour.
The event was organised by Bedok North Neighbourhood Centre (NPC), with support from the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC).
The roadshow aims to create awareness among members of public on unlicensed moneylending by showing the undesirable consequences that disrupt people's lives. It also aims to highlight how they can be part of the Police-Community collaboration in combating UML.
As part of the programme, the SMS Crime Alert, a crime prevention initiative by Bedok Police Division was introduced to the members of public by Commander of Bedok Police Division - Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) How Kwang Hwee.
Bedok North residents who sign up for this free service at the roadshow will be updated on the latest crime trends happening in their residential estate through SMS.
Bedok North NPC also hopes to recruit more Citizen-On-Patrol and Neighbourhood Watch Group members to join the police in fighting UML through this roadshow, as well as encourage more Bedok North residents to sign up for the SMS Crime Alert to receive localised crime related information and advisories.
