<script type="text/javascript"> var fontIndex = 2; var fontSize = new Array('0.63em', '0.69em', '0.75em', '0.88em', '1em', '1.13em'); </script> A Republic of Singapore Navy diver, who had originally been sentenced to two months' jail and fined $500 for assault and drunk and disorderly behaviour, has succeeded in appealing against the sentence.

On July 8 last year, 21-year-old Third Sergeant Ong Chun Kiat, a regular, was arrested for being drunk and creating a disturbance at Boat Quay. He then struggled with a police officer and injured him slightly.

In the High Court yesterday, Justice V K Rajah sentenced him to 15 months' probation instead saying the injury caused was minor and Ong was very drunk when the assault took place.
