Nabbed — fugitive who fled to Singapore for hand reattachment

JOHOR BARU: A Malaysian fugitive who fled to Singapore and sought treatment there for a severed hand has finally been arrested in the island republic. The man, in his 20s, whose hand was severed at the wrist in a gang fight on July 14 here, managed to slip into Singapore to get the hand reattached.

He apparently duped doctors here that he had a road accident and asked to be sent to Singapore for surgery. An ambulance was arranged to transfer him to a hospital in the republic where his hand was reattached. The fugitive, who works as a cook in the island republic, is a member of Gang 04 that was involved in a clash at a restaurant that left two men dead.

Although he knew he was on the police wanted list in Johor, he flew from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur to return to his hometown in Perak to recuperate, and returned to Singapore for follow-up treatment for almost two months without being spotted by the authorities.
Singapore police arrested him and another suspect, also in his 20s, several days ago and handed them over to Johor police.

Nusajaya OCPD Supt Abdul Aziz Ahmad confirmed the arrests but declined to elaborate. Sources said the two men killed in the July 14 clash were members of Gang 21, who were brutally hacked by several parang-wielding men at a restaurant in Bandar Selesa Jaya.

One of the victims died on the spot due to multiple injuries and the other was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries several hours later. It is learnt that one of the victims was a suspect in the murder of former Tenggaroh assemblyman Datuk S. Krishnasamy.
