1 Sep 1963 - Merdeka Singapore!

1 Sep 08 marks the 45th anniversary of Singapore's independence from the British. On 1 Sep 1963, great leader LKY unilaterally declared S'pore independent from the British so that he could conduct snap polls free of any outdated notions of fair play and adequate notice. 16 days later, coincidentally great leader's birthday, S'pore joined Malaysia in what turned out to be one of the shortest political unions in history.

Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!

Sorry to rain on your parade, I no doubt agree that it is a date worth commemorating but there are a large number of disputed points, on how we as a Nation have managed to come so far on that date.

The following article should be able to give all our brothers here some food for thought.
