A former Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) information technology analyst was jailed for 10 months on Wednesday for underage sex, reports The Straits Times.
Ramos Lobaton Alan, 26, pleaded guilty to two counts of having sex with a 15-year-old student in a room at a flat in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 on Oct 13 and 23, 2012. Ten other charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing.
The Mexican national is the second man to be jailed for having sex with the girl and was among five men hauled to court last year.
Last Tuesday, Malaysian Jared Chan Yee Mun, 32, who lives in Australia and owns a restaurant there, was given 12 months for having consensual sex with the minor at Changi Village Hotel while on transit here on Oct 5, 2012.
A district court heard that the minor created an account on a dating and social networking website in mid-2012 as she wanted to make more friends. She revealed that she was an 18-year-old female as this was the minimum age allowed for registration.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Sharmila Sripathy-Shanaz said Ramos initiated contact with the minor online and they soon began communicating via WhatsApp.
She asked Ramos, who was fond of people addressing him as "sir'', if he had a fetish for "bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism'' or BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism). Ramos replied that he did. She then shared that she had experience with BDSM and that she had been a "submissive'' in a previous relationship.
The court heard that even though Ramos knew that the minor was 15 years old, he was undeterred and suggested that he be her new "dominant''. She agreed.
On Oct 19 that year, she went to his apartment where they engaged in BDSM activities and had sex. They met again four days later in the same place for BDSM and sex.
District Judge Low Wee Ping, who said he was not setting a benchmark, said the court was much troubled by the minor's conduct which seemed to be very misguided. He said she went on the Internet to groom offenders like Ramos rather than the other way round.
Defence lawyer Sunil Sudheesan said his client, who as an associate consultant, did not actively seek out a minor to engage in sexual activities with. He said Ramos was remorseful and regretted what he had done. He has to live with the consequences of his misguided decision to engage in sexual acts with the minor. He will be deported to his country and will have to start his life there afresh, he added.
The maximum penalty for the offence is seven years' jail and a fine on each charge.
