OYK asks you to stay active.

Sembawang GRC had our Health Carnival today at Kampung Admiralty. Many residents got together to do some group exercises. What’s more important however is how we include exercise in our daily lives. Hence, we also unveiled the updated activity schedule throughout the GRC. Everyday, at almost every open space, there is some group exercise happening, from Zumba to qigong to stretch band exercises. So do try to stay active!

OYK officially opened the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Integrated Care Hub’s (ICH) rehabilitation and recovery wards.

We officially opened the Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) Integrated Care Hub’s (ICH) rehabilitation and recovery wards this morning.
This is the newest addition to the 17-hectare HealthCity Novena development. When fully completed by the end of this year, ICH will have 608 beds, comprising rehabilitation and palliative care beds.
What is special is that TTSH has now strongly featured rehabilitation for step down hospital care. Rehabilitation is usually done for non-hospitalised patients.
With TTSH and Ren Ci Community Hospital nearby, these healthcare facilities will provide patients will a seamless transition from acute care to step down care to rehabilitation and then full recovery.

OYK met Mr J.

Ong Ye Kung

8 h ·
Met Mr J at the opening of Institute of Mental Health Singapore’s Stepping Stones rehabilitation centre yesterday. This is a significant step towards helping patients with mental health conditions lead normal lives and reintegrate into communities again.
J was diagnosed with schizophrenia at the age of 21. At Stepping Stones, he received help from a multidisciplinary team – namely the doctor, nurses, psychologist, medical social worker, occupational therapist and peer support specialist. He is learning to manage his condition, develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Now 30, Mr J has started vocational training, and is working towards being discharged to stepped-down care in about two months’ time, and eventually live independently.

Attended Carpe Diem preschool's Children’s Day celebration this week. It is a very nice community of parents, teachers and children. The preschool started small in 2010 but has grown in intake. The good news is that there are still a few vacancies. I know many parents in Sembawang are still waiting for pre-school places. So here is one possibility.

Glad to be back at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) for its convocation ceremony this morning.
SUSS was established as our sixth Autonomous University under my watch as Minister for Education.
Today, it is a unique university that caters to adult learners, with three-quarters of its enrolment being mature students. Congrats to the graduants!

OYK was disturbed. :o-o::confused::biggrin:

Like many of you, I have seen the video of the recent incident at the Singapore General Hospital Emergency Department. It shows a patient getting into an altercation with the police officers who were called in by SGH after the patient allegedly abused our healthcare workers (HCWs).
The video was recorded by the patient herself. I have also read SGH’s statement and newspaper reports on the matter.
And I was disturbed.
Earlier this year, we announced a zero-tolerance policy against the abuse and harassment, verbal or physical, of HCWs.
The alleged behaviour and actions of the patient, are exactly what we need to protect HCWs against.
I thank the police officers at the scene for being firm and calm, and being there when our HCWs needed them. I am very glad that SGH has put out a clear statement very quickly.
As reported in the media, the individual has been charged in court today with multiple offences under the Protection from Harassment Act and Private Security Industry Act.
We need to take a clear stand: healthcare workers deserve to be treated with respect. This must be a consistent stand by all of us.

Was invited to write some calligraphy for the Singapore General Hospital Department of Renal Medicine's 50th anniversary.
I chose 合家安康 which means harmony, peace, and good health for the whole family. This is my sincere wish for all.
It will be up for auction to raise funds for the SGH Renal Advancing Resources in Kidney Diseases Fund. Happy to play a small part to support a good cause.

Yesterday the Singapore men’s football team beat Guam 1-0. Aggregate score 3-1!
Scorer of the winning goal is Sembawang Central resident, Shawal Anuar. But we are proud of the whole team.
We will now move on to Group C of the World Cup Qualifiers and face South Korea, China, and Thailand!

This is Kelvin, Clara and baby. I met them at the official opening of Mount Alvernia Hospital’s St Anne Mother and Child Centre today.
Underlying every good hospital is care, love and passion. I hope private hospitals like Mount A will continue to grow and contribute to our diverse and resilient healthcare ecosystem.
Congratulations to both Mount A and Kelvin and Clara on this very joyous occasion!

OYK wants to work together to change mindsets and social norms.:o-o::tongue:

Ong Ye Kung

1 d ·
After engaging 200,000 Singaporeans over 16 months, we launched the #ForwardSG Report today.
Throughout the process, one recurring core question has been "how do we do big things together as a people once again?"
In healthcare, we have such an opportunity.
The Government is rolling out major transformative pieces such as Healthier SG and Age Well SG, while evaluating significant medical advances in technology.
But this is just one hand. The other hand is really the people, because individual behaviours determine health.
So we need to work together to change mindsets and social norms, to live differently and create a much healthier society.
This is not new to us. We have done it in the early days of independence. We can do it again, in a new context, to face the new challenges before us.
