Man stole after casino losses

An Indonesian man who lost all his money at the Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) casino in Singapore, stole a mobile phone from an undergraduate at Changi Airport.

Paulus Djohar, 49, unemployed, was jailed for four weeks on Wednesday after pleading guilty to stealing a S$500 phone from Lim Tse Min at Terminal 1 on Tuesday.

A court heard that he came here from Malaysia last Tuesday with the intention of patronising the newly-opened casino at RWS. As he lost all his money gambling at the casino on Monday, the second day of its opening, he decided to steal from passengers at Changi Airport.

Early on Tuesday morning, Djohar was at the airport when he approached Lim, who was with a group sending a friend off.

One of them in the group saw his suspicious movements and alerted Lim, who discovered the phone gone from the side pocket of her backpack. She and the witness confronted Djohar.

Djohar, who said he regretted what he had done, could have been jailed for up to three years and/or fined. - Singapore Straits Times

What I have feared most is happening now....

Dear GoFlyKiteNow,

Please do post more of such CASINO related Crimes, as this will serve as a good information source for Singaporeans, young and old to understand that the Crimes could have been prevented...

These are just petty crimes, but when it comes to robbery... lives will be endangered!

This case is full of holes like the sieve your neighborhood noodle hawker uses.

Unemployed, can afford to travel from Indonesia, to Malaysia, to Singapore.

Lost all money. Well, how much is all exactly?

How can stealing a S$500-phone help himself out?

Donch worry, our boys-in-blue are very well equipped to catch all casino-related crimes.

Remember they already bought a baccarat, blackjack, Big/Small, and maybe a majong table, and been practicing hard (over CNY which was just in time) since.

Many foreign workers will lose their hard-earned cash

They have borrowed to pay agents to come here and work for slave drivers like besotted

Soon there will snatch thefts and robberies like in Johor

They will have no money to pay legal prostitutes in Geylang and Petain. They will rape and molest women here.

Serious crime will go up. Singapore is fucked

The moment the casinos were given go-ahead we are fucked

The whole opposition had already anticipated this. Everyone from SDA to SDP to WP. (RP had not been formed or they would too.) And this is only the first week.

Jailed for 4 weeks = $50 a day (prison cost) x 30 =$1500
Court cost = $2000

Total cost to taxpayer = $3500/

I wonder if the influx of FT has taxed the Singapore court system.
