Man raped daughter, jailed

The High Court heard on Monday that in 2002, when the girl was eight years old, she was woken up by her father forcing himself on her. Although in pain, she did not cry out as she was afraid of him. His youngest son, then aged four, was asleep in the other room. His other three children, all sons and his wife were not in the three-room flat in Boon Lay. The 57-year-old man cannot be named to protect the girl's identity. The rape attacks stopped in 2008 as the girl would only return from school after her mother had come home. Concerned about the constant late-coming, the mother questioned the daughter and discovered the truth. The police were informed in January last year. The man could be jailed up to 20 years on each of the three rape charges. Offenders below the age of 50 could also be caned.
