Man jailed for punching another

By Elena Chong

A MAN who repeatedly punched a pest control officer on the face was jailed for 10 weeks on Monday.

Lim Yee Siong, 36, who runs a security systems firm, had compensated $1,000 to the victim, Mr Liu Fuwei, 28, whom he assaulted at a carpark at Block 123 Hougang Avenue 1 on Dec 4, 2009.

A district court heard that Lim was a passenger in a car, driven by Ms Ong Sim Pei, 27, when she overtook Mr Liu's van and braked suddenly, causing a near collision.

Mr Liu followed the car into the carpark and confronted Ms Ong. Ms Ong asked the victim the reasons for following her.

Just then, Lim got down and shouted at the victim. He pushed the victim against the front of his van and gave him a punch on the right eye area.

He also restrained the victim's neck with his right forearm and tried to push him onto the ground.

They were separated by Mr Liu's wife. Lim then rushed forward and punched the victim on his left eye area twice. The victim ran back to his van and called the police.

He drove to another carpark to avoid Lim, who gave chase on foot and bent the vehicle's antenna before police arrived.
