AN UNEMPLOYED man was jailed for three months on Friday for harbouring his friend who had escaped from legal custody. The friend, Latif Osman, 40, had fled to Hasim Noordin's flat in Aljunied Crescent on June 20, 2007, a day after police arrested him for a suspected drug offence. Hasim, 40, admitted to harbouring Latif from June 20 to 23 that year with the intention of screening him from legal punishment. The court heard that police went to Latif's flat in Telok Blangah Crescent on June 19 after a tip-off from his girlfriend that he was taking drugs. Police came and after handcuffing him, Latif put up a violent struggle and broke free, with the handcuff still attached to his wrist. Hasim, who could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined, had a second charge of mischief considered during his sentencing.
