Man jailed, fined for selling fake goods

SINGAPORE : A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to 12 weeks' jail and fined S$19,200 for selling fake goods.
Goh Tong Sang was arrested on July 14 last year at Boon Lay MRT Station.
Police seized 58 pieces of fake goods.
These included counterfeit bags and wallets of luxury brands, such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
The court heard that Goh had created an eBay account in 2004 to sell fake goods.
When he first started his trade, he had the fake goods shipped over from Malaysia.
In 2007, Goh learnt that the fake goods had come from China and started to source for them there.
While Goh was in Guangzhou, he got to know a supplier, who agreed to ship fake goods to him in Singapore.
Since then, Goh started placing orders for fake goods from the supplier.
Payment for the goods was made through remittance services.
Goh then set up an account in an online market place known as "iOffer", identifying himself as "Jammie".
He uploaded photographs of the fake goods and corresponded with his customers via email.
On Wednesday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Joshua Lai asked the court to give Goh a higher fine as he had been trading since 2004 and was actively involved in buying fake goods from China.
Goh could have been fined up to S$10,000 for each piece of the fake goods he possessed and jailed up to five years.
