SINGAPORE: A 27-year-old unemployed man has been jailed 10 weeks for committing road rage after a traffic accident, then using criminal force on a Certis CISCO Auxiliary Police officer who attended to the incident.

Johnny Ang Wen Sheng was driving a car along the Pan-Island Expressway towards Changi Airport just before 1am on July 17 last year when he suddenly stopped his vehicle - causing a tow truck to hit it in the rear.

A dispute soon broke out between Ang and the tow-truck driver, 48-year-old Joseph Soh Jin Guan. As Mr Soh was walking away from Ang, the younger man used a 50-centimetre-long metal rod to hit his leg, causing a bruise to his right calf.

Ang also used the rod to hit Mr Soh's tow truck repeatedly damaging its headlights, windscreen and doors. He caused about S$1,300 in damages in all.

Corporal Norisham Taib, who was a Traffic Marshall on duty at the time, arrived on the scene about 20 minutes later. But Ang shouted at the uniformed officer and told him that the incident was "none of his business".

Corporal Norisham told Ang to remain calm, but Ang stepped forward and pushed the officer twice in the chest. Ang also grabbed Corporal Norisham's Traffic Marshall vest and pulled it towards him.

For using criminal force on the officer, Ang could have been jailed up to four years, fined, or both. And for damaging the tow truck, he could have been jailed up to two years, fined, or both.
