SINGAPORE: A man has been charged with living off the earnings of an underage prostitute.

The accused cannot be named to protect the identity of the 17-year-old girl.

He was alleged to have committed the offence in Geylang between mid-January and mid-March this year.

Under the law, anyone who knowingly lives off the earnings of the prostitution of another person faces a jail term of up to five years and a fine of S$10,000.

In a separate case, a 50-year-old woman has been charged with robbing a 25-year-old woman in a lift in Ang Mo Kio.

Ang Lay Chin allegedly used a knife to rob her victim, Ms Gan Pei Fueng, at about 8.20pm on 29 September.

She was believed to have acted with another man, robbing Ms Gan of S$100 in cash, a mobile phone, as well as jewellery and accessories worth about S$4,500.

Anyone found guilty of robbery by night faces up to 14 years' in jail.

The additional penalty for being armed during a robbery is up to 12 strokes of the cane. However, as Ang is a woman, she will be spared the cane if convicted.

A COUPLE pocketed about $10,000 from a 20-year-old prostitute as well as a cut of the earnings of eight other women they managed in an online vice operation. On Friday, Andy Chang Shi Chang, 29, was jailed eight months by a district court.

The unemployed man had pleaded guilty to procuring women for prostitution, living on immoral earnings and to managing a vice service at Gerald Park condominium in Seletar. Sentencing for his girlfriend, Mabel Wong Liya, 20, was adjourned to Nov 2 to gauge her suitability for probation or reformative training. She had pleaded guilty to similar offences.

The court heard that in January 2010 Chang and Wong placed advertisements in The New Paper for social escorts. They would tell the escorts to provide sexual services for between $250 and $500 a session and to give them a cut of $50 to $100 from each booking.

The nine women named in the court papers are now aged between 20 and 45 but one of them was only 17 years old at the time the offences were committed.

An 18-year-old student helped her boyfriend run the Discreet Passion social escort agency which was a front for prostitution in 2010. They were arrested after a year and charged with getting women for prostitution and living on immoral earnings.

Mabel Wong Liya, now 20 and unemployed, was sentenced today to 1 1/2 years of probation and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.

Last month, her boyfriend Andy Chang Shi Chang, 29, was jailed for eight months.

The couple's online vice ring offered nine women, all Singaporeans. They would collect $50 to $100 from the prostitutes, who in turn would charge between $250 and $500 for each session.
