SINGAPORE : A 44-year-old man has been charged with wrongfully restraining and hurting his ex-wife. Goo Teck Boon allegedly committed the offences at about 8pm on January 15 last year.

He's alleged to have grabbed Ms Leyau Lay Choo by the arm and brought her into a car at a multi-storey carpark at 146, Market Street in the Raffles Place area. Goo allegedly drove the car to Oxley Rise near Orchard Road.

When he reached a lift lobby at Visioncrest Residence, it's believed he held Ms Leyau's head in an armlock and threw her to the ground. Shortly afterwards, they entered a lift and he allegedly punched her twice on the head.

Ms Leyau suffered a bruise near her ear and a scratch on her cheek. Goo is also accused of contravening a court order which forbids him from entering his matrimonial home. He allegedly went against the Domestic Exclusion Order twice - in February and June 2009.

Goo faces nine charges in all. A pre-trial conference will be held next month on June 14. If convicted of voluntarily causing hurt, he could be jailed a maximum of two years and fined up to S$5,000. For contravening the order, first-time offenders could be jailed up to six months and fined a maximum of S$2,000.

Repeat offenders could be jailed a maximum of 12 months and fined up to S$5,000. - CNA/jy
