Man arrested for suspected series of theft from vehicles in Choa Chu Kang and Punggol

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 39-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of theft from vehicle cases committed in Choa Chu Kang and Punggol.

Friday, Sep 25, 2015

Between Sept 4 and 21, 2015, police received several reports of cash and valuables being stolen from vehicles parked in the Choa Chu Kang and Punggol public housing estates.

Following the reports lodged, officers from Jurong and Ang Mo Kio Division conducted extensive ground enquiries and follow-up investigations. With the aid of the victim's in-vehicle CCTV, the identity of the suspect was established and he was subsequently arrested on Sept 25 along Rivervale Drive.

If convicted, he will face an imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years, a fine, or both.

To prevent theft from vehicles, police advise vehicle owners to adopt the following precautionary measures:

• Install an anti-theft alarm system;
• Do not leave cash and valuables such as cashcards, laptops, handphones, briefcase or wallets in your vehicle;
• Lock all vehicle doors and wind up all windows when vehicle is parked, even if it is for a short while;
• Park your vehicle in well-lit areas; and
• Look around the vicinity for suspicious characters before leaving. If you see any suspicious characters, take note of their appearance, attire, height, or any other distinctive physical features and inform the police for assistance. Do not confront them.
