SINGAPORE - A call for action on Facebook by the police led to a tip-off and the arrest of a 35-year-old man for alleged loanshark harassment.
A member of the public who noticed the appeal for information on Facebook tipped off the police, who were then able to identify the suspect, the police said in a statement.
The man was then arrested in Alexandra Road. Investigations revealed that the man was a debtor-turned-runner.
According to the police, he had harassed other debtors by locking their units with bicycle locks and also splashing paint on debtors' units in Serangoon housing estate.
The police also believe that he had conducted other acts of harassment in Yishun and Hougang.
He will be charged in court on April 5 for loanshark harassment. If found guilty he can be jailed up to 5 years, fined between $5,000 and $50,000 and may also be caned up to 6 strokes.
