Man arrested for assaulting police officer

SINGAPORE - A 27-year-old man who assaulted a police officer on Tuesday morning has been arrested.
The Police received a call for assistance at about 3.20am from a taxi driver along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3.
Upon arrival, officers found the man found sleeping in the taxi. He started hurling vulgarities at them when they woke him up.
Despite repeated warnings to stop, he persisted and assaulted one of the officers.
He was subsequently arrested for voluntarily causing hurt to a police officer, and will be charged at the State Courts on Wednesday.
If convicted of causing hurt to a public servant, he could be jailed up to seven years, fined, caned or receive a combination of the punishments.
If convicted of insulting a public servant, he could be jailed up to 12 months, fined up to $5,000, or both.
