A netizen has posted a YouTube video (see above) showing a man allegedly pointing a fake gun at an SBS bus driver and ordering him to drive faster.
According to the YouTube user , the man took out the fake gun when the double-decker bus got stuck in a traffic jam and he became impatient, reported Shin Min Daily.
The incident is said to have happened on 28 July.
He said there were two other passengers at the lower deck of the bus and that at one point the man even pointed the fake gun at the passengers.
Lawyer Lee Ya Feng told Shin Min Daily that while it is not illegal to possess a toy gun in Singapore, the toy must be approved by relevant authorities.
If you have a toy gun which is an imitation of a real gun and has the potential to cause harm, then you may be considered as possessing firearms without a valid licence.
Under the Arms and Explosives Act, it is illegal to possess, import, export and manufacture such toy guns without a licence.
If convicted, a person can be sentenced to up to three years in jail and be fined up to $3,000.
When the Chinese daily contacted SBS Transit's senior vice president for corporate communications, Tammy Tan, she said the company viewed the safety of passengers seriously and that the police have been informed of the incident.
In a report by the same Chinese daily last month, a similar incident was highlighted when a video (see below) of a bald man brandishing what appears to be a fake gun, went online.
