SINGAPORE: A 21-year-old lorry driver has been charged with committing a rash act which led to the death of a woman who was sitting in the back seat of a taxi.

Gabriel Lim Yong Han was driving a lorry when he allegedly hit the taxi on 27 December 2008 - killing 28-year-old Tan Sheng Ping.

It's believed Lim's actions also injured the cabby, Teo Cheng Liang, 41.

Lim was driving from the slip road of Bishan Street 11 into Braddell Road at around 2am that day when he encroached into the taxi's path while switching lanes.

The pre-trial conference for this case will be held on August 30.

If convicted of committing the rash act and causing Ms Tan's death, Lim could be jailed up to five years, fined or both.

If found guilty of causing Mr Teo's injuries, he could be jailed up to a year, fined a maximum of $5,000 or both.
