Lift robber arrested

<!-- end left side bar --> <!-- story content : start --> POLICE arrested a robber within the same day after he robbed an elderly woman in a lift. The 51-year-old suspect, wearing a helmet, followed the elderly woman, 76, into a lift at Telok Blangah Drive and robbed her of a gold chain.
He was subsequently nabbed at Telok Blangah Crescent after a thorough search. The suspect will be charged in court on Friday for robbery, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years and caning. Police have advised the public on the following crime prevention measures:
* Avoid taking the same lift with suspicious persons
* When taking the lift alone, stand beside the lift control panel and press 'Door Open' button to exit immediately if you sense anything amiss, and;
* Should you become a victim of crime, take note of the description of the culprit, e.g. his appearance, height, physical details, attire, and the direction and mode of escape
* Call the police as soon as it is safe to do so.
