Malaysian troops leave for Lebanon
An event to mark the deployment of Malaysian Battalion (Malbatt) 850-11 to Lebanon was held at the Subang Royal Malaysian Air Force base today.
Defence Minister Mohamad Hasan oversaw the event, which included a United Nations blue beret and Malaysian flag handover ceremony.
After three months of specialised training, including Force Integration Training (FIT), the 854-member strong Malbatt 850-11 contingent, which includes personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, is set to replace Malbatt 850-10 in the United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (Unifil) mission.
Under the supervision of the Unifil Western Sector Headquarters, Malbat 850-11 will operate from two permanent bases - Camp Ma’arakah and Camp Tibnin.
This event marked the ongoing commitment of the Malaysian government to support international peacekeeping efforts.
