There are actually many things in my mind but just need to sit down and re-organize. This interview gives me the opportunity to sit upright and do some serious thinking and soul searching.

Great stuff. As the day draws nearer, you will need to break it down to bite size pieces for voters. You probably know all these just in case.

Long Term:
- at a minimum a 2 party systems that will protect this country from being abused in the event that power moves from a currently misguided benevolent dictatorship to unmitigated tyrant. The current state and structure lends itself to abuse.

- independence of the media

- cutting the GLC apron strings and reducing direct govt particiaption in the commercial sector to just strategic ventures and business germination iniatives

- Zero tolerance for nepotism which is currently in the guise of meritocracy.

Short Term

- affordable housing
- jobs and livelyhood for Singaporeans
- removal of anti democratic electoral features such as GLCs, high deposits, compliant electroral body
- realistic salary remuneration for political appointments

I am sorry that this interview depresses you. It is never meant to depress anybody.

Kelvin has posted a few very thought provoking questions and it is also about time I take stock on my own political development path. I have spent extraordinary long time to reply to his questions, just a true reflection on what I thought as a person that was born and brought up in the 1970s & 80s.

Kelvin's questions have forced me to re-consolidate my position and political beliefs, enhancing my resolve to make good of the years I am going to spend in the political arena. Well, I mean I am not going to spend my whole life in Singapore politics if I have the choice. I may have to move on in life to a higher calling.

Your interview depresses me greatly... these are all true things that you've said, but there are so many sinkies who will rather be frogs in the well and tell themselves that PAP is better than alternatives. I wish they will wake up to reality and take action before it is too late.

Some singkies are frogs in the well as you said, never seen the outside world, don't know and don't care what's happening.
There are also some singkies who are snakes in the well, slithering up and down the well, well aware of what's happening, but choose to see what matters to them and only interested in their own benefit.

I was chewing on your words for the past two days.

I would say that more Singaporeans are well traveled nowadays. They do have opportunities to look at the outside world. However, most of the time, most of them are more concerned about hygiene matters, weather, food and many other superficial things. They do not stay long enough to appreciate the other sides of things in the places that they visit, most probably due to their short schedule.

Some who have stayed in places long enough tend to make comparisons like what our SPH would do, how Singapore is better in this and that, but never in the mode of looking at things that are better than ours and how it could improve ourselves. Have you ever seen any reports on SPH newspapers about how a place like Hong Kong or Japan is better than Singapore? Never but most of the time, they boast about how good Singapore is with all the first awards, hardly on the 147th awards.

Some people may brush this off but this is a very important matter. If a small country like Singapore has such inferiority complex, constantly need reassurance on how good we are and refusing to look at our inadequacies, strength of others, then we will be in great trouble. While we keep boasting about how our "experience" could be learned by other countries, we seldom admit that there are many things we could learn from others as well. How could a country progress with such mentality?
