Actor Jackie Chan refutes claims that he advised actress Fan Bingbing to seek refuge in US over tax evasion woes
Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan has refuted allegations that he had advised Chinese actress Fan Bingbing to seek refuge in the United States in the wake of an ongoing tax evasion scandal.
According to Hong Kong news outlet Apple Daily, Fan - one of Chinese entertainment's most recognisable faces - appeared at a Los Angeles immigration office on Friday morning (Aug 31) to enter the United States.
The source is reportedly a Twitter user, who believes that Fan had taken Chan's advice to seek refuge in the United States to ride out what is the biggest scandal in her two decades in showbiz.
But in response, Chan's company told Chinese news site ETtoday that the actor's involvement was "nonsense".
According to the Saturday ETtoday report, sources claimed that Fan had already been "taken in", suggesting that the actress may have been arrested.
The 36-year-old actress went dark in June after veteran Chinese host Cui Yongyuan accused her of tax evasion in late May. He implied that Fan has signed what is known as "yin and yang" contracts, where she reportedly had two contracts on Cell Phone 2, a Feng Xiaogang film.
One, meant to be given to the authorities, presented her pay as 10 million yuan (S$2 million) while another, used internally between Fan and the production company presented her pay as 50 million yuan (S$10 million). In total, she was set to receive 60 million yuan but would only be taxed for 10 million yuan.
Fan, the highest paid actress in China according to Forbes, denied the claims and Cui later walked back on the allegations - but the damage had already been done.
China's State Administration of Taxation published a statement on June 3, several days after Cui's allegations, which said that it has ordered its local bureau in Jiangsu province to investigate the tax evasion issue of those working in the film industry. Though no names were cited, Fan's film studio is based in Jiangsu.
Zhejiang Talent, one of the production companies of The Legend of Ba Qing - an epic Chinese drama that stars Fan alongside Chinese actor Gavin Gao - released a company report on Wednesday, which said that the television series has yet to receive a date of release due to allegations its stars have been involved in.
Aside from Fan's tax evasion woes, Gao was charged in June with two counts of aggravated sexual assault in Australia. Fan is also a shareholder of Zhejiang Talent.
The company said if it does not eventually receive a release date and the show is dropped from release, it will fall into some 740 million yuan of bad debts.
To add fuel to the fire, Fan, a mainstay on international red carpets like the Cannes Film Festival and an avid social media user, seemingly dropped off the map. Her account on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site, has not been updated since June 2. She previously posted almost daily.
Rumours about Fan's predicament began to fly in the months since. There were reports alleging that Fan had been banned from acting for three years and barred from leaving the country.
Her fiance, Chinese actor Li Chen, has also maintained a low profile and kept mum about her current predicament.

MINNEAPOLIS/SHANGHAI (Reuters) - The CEO of Chinese online retail giant JD.com Inc, Richard Liu, was arrested in Minneapolis last week following an allegation of rape, according to a public information report released by police on Tuesday.

Liu, who through his lawyers has denied any wrongdoing, was released from custody on Saturday without being charged or paying bail. He has returned to China, appearing at an event on Tuesday to sign an agreement with Shandong Ruyi, the owner of Swiss luxury shoe firm Bally.

The disclosure adds detail about the accusation after police said previously he had been arrested on suspicion of criminal sexual conduct. It is likely to increase the pressure on Liu and U.S.-listed JD.com, which saw its shares end down 6 percent on its first day of trade since the news of his arrest broke.

Minneapolis Police Department spokesman John Elder said on Tuesday that if there were any charges against Liu they would not be filed until completion of a criminal investigation that would not occur before Friday.

Lawyers for Liu have said they do not expect him to be charged. “There’s no credible complaint,” defense attorney Joseph Friedberg said on Tuesday.

The police report said domestic violence was not involved. Elder said the alleged attack reportedly occurred at 1 a.m. local time on Friday, and that Liu was taken into custody later that evening.

Why bother with this type of like FBB with all his riches and power ? FBB is all but trouble. Rumour has it that she was a public toilet for politician in CCP. When she got into trouble with her mouth, the powerful politician left her to fend for herself. That's what happen to her when some most powerful politician left her.

For us commeners, FBB is a rare beauty for us.

But for the rich and powerful in china , it is better to steer clear.

Fan Bingbing: Missing Chinese actress not 'socially responsible', report says

One of China's most famous actresses, Fan Bingbing, has been ranked last in a list of celebrities for their social responsibility, raising further questions about her sudden disappearance.

Key points:
Fan Bingbing scored 0 per cent in a social responsibility rating
The actress has not been seen since July
She is best known outside China for her roles in the X-Men films
The 2017-18 China Film and Television Star Social Responsibility Report ranks Chinese celebrities according to three criteria: professional work, charitable actions and personal integrity, state media reported.

A list of the rankings from the report published by state media outlet China Daily showed Bingbing received a score of 0 per cent.

According to the ranking list, only nine celebrities received a passing score of 60 per cent — including Bingbing's fiance, actor Li Chen.

The report was authored by the China Social Responsibility 100 Forum, which is said to have been established by experts, entrepreneurs and social activists.

Top of the list is actor Xu Zheng, with a score of 78 per cent.

Bingbing, who is best known in the West for her roles in the X-Men movie franchise, has not been seen in public since July 1, sparking rumours she is in prison.

She was publicly linked to a tax evasion investigation in May, and has since gone silent.

Last week, a state media report from China's state-run Securities Daily said that BingBing, 36, was "placed under control".

But the online story vanished not long after it first appeared.

Independent film critic Jiang Yong, based in Beijing, said Bingbing was the face of film, television and commercials in China.

"She's one of the most important celebrities in China, quite possibly the most famous," Mr Yong said.

Forbes named Bingbing first for the fourth consecutive year in its annual China Celebrity List in 2017.

Authorities haven't confirmed she is being targeted in a tax investigation, but Mr Yong said it has been rumoured online that she's among the stars accused of using "Yin and Yang contracts".

"Yin and Yang contracts mean one contract is submitted to the tax department," Mr Yong said.

"But there's actually a second contract containing a higher amount of money that is the real contract.

"The tax department is now investigating this practice in the Chinese film industry."

The scandal has prompted Chinese regulators to cap the amount film studios can pay top stars.

Bingbing's spokesperson has denied any wrongdoing but has not addressed the specific allegations about dual contracts.

Well-known actor Jackie Chan has denied allegations he advised Bingbing to seek refuge in the US in the wake of China's ongoing tax evasion scandal.

Bingbing has previously been seen in Melbourne alongside Hugh Jackman for her role in X-Men.

Tax evasion is a crime in any country and should be punished to the fullest extent of the law regardless of whether the offender is a two dollar whore or not.
