Indonesian official arrested for alleged child rape

The Jakarta Post, Pekanbaru | Archipelago | Wed, May 21 2014, 6:52 AM

An official at the Riau Prosecutor’s Office, identified only as DW, 32, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting two children, aged 12 and 13, in Pekanbaru.

“The results of a [medical evaluation] showed that the two victims had suffered bruises to their anal areas,” Pekanbaru Police deputy chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Sugeng Putut Wicaksono said on Tuesday.

“There might be more victims. We will thoroughly investigate the case to find more evidence and other possible victims,” he said, calling on residents to file a report with the police should their children or relatives fall victim to sexual abuse.

DW was apprehended at his house in Pekanbaru after the victims’ parents filed police reports. “The suspect allegedly offered the victims Rp 50,000 [US$4] before sexually abusing them in his bedroom,” Sugeng went on.

Questioning revealed DW was hospitalized at the Tampan Psychiatric Hospital in Pekanbaru from March 26 to 30. The police, however, will continue to investigate the case.

DW will be charged with violating the 2002 Child Protection Law carrying a maximum penalty of four year in prison.

Separately, Riau High Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Mukhzan said DW could face administrative sanctions if found guilty.
