Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Wednesday made a renewed pitch for his country’s new US$32-billion capital city to investors in Singapore, the latest attempt to lure funds into a project that has so far failed to attract big-ticket investment.
Speaking at a sustainability-focused conference hosted by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings, the president offered 300 development packages worth US$2.6 billion to investors interested in building the city, Nusantara, amid the jungles of Borneo Island, and promised high returns.
“Everything will be fine, no need to worry, your investment in Indonesia will continue to be safe and [there will be] continuity in the development of Nusantara capital city,” said Jokowi, as he is popularly known, while presenting images of the planned futuristic city.

Indonesia passes law to relocate capital from Jakarta to Borneo

So far, not a single investment deal has been signed as investors worry about the project’s feasibility and future given an expected transition of power in the next year’s general and presidential elections.
Nusantara is set to become the capital of Southeast Asia’s biggest economy from next year, replacing the congested yet beating commercial and political heart of the country, Jakarta. Jokowi, who made infrastructure development a priority during his two terms in office, considers the project part of his legacy as he prepares to leave office next year after a decade in power.

He has said he expects most the city to be funded by the private sector and the government in March introduced a set of incentives.

Bambang Susantono, chair of the Nusantara authority, told the same forum that funding the project will be profitable, citing a 11 per cent to 13 per cent potential return on investing in the city’s power system.

Investors from South Korea, Japan, China, Germany and the United Arab Emirates are conducting due diligence and about 100 more visited Nusantara last week, he said, without elaborating.
Some 16,000 civil servants, military and police officers are expected to move to Nusantara by next year. Construction of government buildings is under way but only temporary settlements for workers were seen at the site as of March.

They got the location all wrong. It should have been pulau karimun or nearby, but not batam. That way, investors will be attracted to the location along a trade rout and easy link to huge land mass of sumatra and nearby trading and business centres.
To create a new capital in the jungle away from businesses means gomen will need to spend first before others move in. And location is not so conducive.
They chose the location to be centrally located in indonesia, but it is in a undevelop region.

It's too far away from civilization. Maybe if you turn it into a hedonistic sex hub like Bali, ban all mosques etc, it might attract the tourists and infidels.

All these newly created capitals are soulless and trashy. In Brazil, it's Brasilia. In Kazakhstan, it's Astana.

Jokowi can promise the sky ... then the next president have another idea. That is the problem with these countries. Nothing is written in stone. Some of you might wonder why it remain backwards.

Good example was :

"The Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has abandoned the city of Amaravati and chosen the coastal city of Visakhapatnam to be its new capital. The new Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced this on Tuesday (31 Jan).

Before Mr Reddy became the new Chief Minister, the Andhra Pradesh state was run by the Telugu Desam government. The Telugu Desam Party is aligned with PM Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party. At the time, the Chief Minister was Chandrababu Naidu, leader of the Telugu Desam Party. It was Mr Naidu who picked the city of Amaravati to be the new capital of the state.

Mr Naidu wanted Amaravati to be like Singapore and signed two memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with a consortium comprising Ascendas-Singbridge and Sembcorp Development to develop it.

In 2017, the Singapore Amaravati Investment Holdings consortium was announced as the master developers for the waterfront financial centre in Amaravati.

This collaboration is complemented by a G-to-G Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Singapore and the government of Andhra Pradesh on training and capacity building, which has been endorsed by the government of India.

Mr Naidu lost the state elections in April 2019 to his rival, Mr Reddy, who was from the YSR Congress party. Shortly thereafter, in November 2019, the Reddy government cancelled the agreement with the Singapore consortium."

His biggest failure is in making this move.

Malaysia's Putrajaya is a leading example
Putrajaya, cyberjaya and KL airport diverted massive traffic away from KL and klang valley. I think its a success. And just 20 minutes away driving from KL.
Indonesia capital is javanese trying to grip on other non javanese areas.they are worried about seccessionist movement.
