AN UNEMPLOYED man became the owner of a semi-automatic pistol when his friend, who was about to be arrested for drug offences, offloaded it on him a decade ago. In July last year, Low Hua Choon took the pistol - which contained five rounds of ammunition - on a run to sell smuggled contraband cigarettes.
These details emerged on Wednesday, when the 41-year-old was convicted in a district court. He faces a jail term of between five and 20 years and at least six strokes of the cane under the Arms Offences Act. The court heard that he was arrested at the traffic light junction at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and Avenue 8 on 27 July last year. The case has been adjourned until June 17.
