16 Years Jail, Cane For Raping Own Sister

KUALA LUMPUR- A security guard was sentenced to 16 years in prison and 20 strokes of the cane by the Ampang Magistrates Court here today after he pleaded guilty to two counts of raping his sister two weeks ago.
Judge Manira Mohd Nor sentenced the 28-year-old accused to eight years jail and 10 strokes of the cane for each count to be served consecutively effective today. During her judgement, Manira advised the accused to repent and turn over a new leaf.
The accused was charged with raping his 22-year-old sister in their house at Ampang Jaya here at 8 am on Feb 14 and 16. He faced up to 30 years in jail and 10 strokes of the cane for each charge under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, upon conviction.
Earlier in the proceedings, the accused, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lesser sentence saying he had to support his mother and unemployed siblings.
However, deputy public prosecutor Noor Fadzlin Abd Zawawi asked for a heavy penalty on the basis that he had betrayed the entrusted responsibility of taking care of his sister. – Bernama
