SINGAPORE: A thief who had posed as a prospective customer and stole a $2,500 gold chain from a goldsmith shop yesterday was arrested by the Police as he made his getaway.
The officers were carrying out foot patrol along Serangoon Road when they heard a commotion from a goldsmith shop nearby.
Armed with the description of the suspect, the officers headed towards Dunlop Street where the suspect was seen running towards.
They detained him after a short chase and the stolen gold chain was found on him.
Police said the suspect is also believed to be involved in at least two other cases where gold chains were stolen from pawnshops in a similar manner.
The 54-year-old suspect will be charged in Court 26 on Thursday.
If convicted, he can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
A Court Order will be sought to remand him for further investigations thereafter.
