Gang of eight arrested
<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> Eight suspects who are believed to have been involved in a series of robbery, snatch theft and housebreaking cases in the Yishun Estate have been caught. The arrests came a day after a 20 year-old national serviceman was attacked by a group of youths along Yishun Ring Road on Thursday at about 2.30 am.
The suspects, between 15 to 29 years, assaulted the victim with beer bottles before snatching his hand phone valued at about $400/-. The victim sustained arm injuries and was later sent to hospital. Police officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division responded swiftly and combed the estate in search of the suspects. They managed to detain four suspects in the vicinity of Yishun Street 21 and the other four later.
Investigations revealed that the suspects are also believed to be responsible for other cases of robbery, snatch theft and housebreaking in the Yishun Estate. Seven of them will be charged in court on Saturday for robbery with hurt which carries a maximum of 20 years jail and at least 12 strokes of the cane. The other suspect will be charged with housebreaking and theft, for which he can be jailed up to 14 years, if convicted.
